Mono types are made by painting or rolling ink directly onto a plate and then passing through a press with paper on top to capture the image. Only one print can be made using this method. I often use stencils to create shapes by masking out areas that I do not want to be transferred to the paper. By working with layers of colour, so that the plate is run through the press several times onto the same piece of paper, I create tones, shapes, and areas of flat colour.
